We recently went to Breckenridge for the weekend, and as always, Kitty got to join us on our adventures. Breckenridge is actually one of her favorite towns to visit, and there is a bountifulness to see in this small town for just about everyone.

Main Street is probably the biggest spot for tourists. With an abundance of restaurants ranging in cuisine and price, it can be a challenge to choose one for a meal. Main Street is also packed with cute shops, from souvenir shops to rock and jewelry shops, southwestern shops, and even a charming Christmas shop.
Right behind Main Street is a pond and the river walk, where the Blue River runs through the town, and even becomes a pond at one point. It is a nice, fairly shaded walk with easy access to the shops and parking. Kitty was not thrilled about the river though, especially when she saw dogs playing in the water at certain spots. She was more interested in the people walking about and the nature along the river walk.
Breckenridge is primarily known for its skiing, but it is a great place to hike in the summertime. Just make sure you are adjusted to the altitude (as the town is just below 10,000ft elevation), and bring water and sunscreen. There are an abundance of hiking trails, as well as the ski slopes, or even walking around the town (there are many neat finds outside of Main Street).
An easy and fun trail to do (especially if you have kids) is the Trollstigen Trail, where you can search for the giant troll (gobreck.com). It is a short and easy hike; and can even help with adjusting to the altitude. Kitty had no idea what to think when we found the giant troll, she had never seen anything like it.
Sawmill Reservoir was more of Kitty’s speed as it is a bit quieter. This trail is not long either, and offers beautiful views of the mountains with a small reservoir. The reservoir is pretty clear (at certain spots you can see several feet down), and the smooth dirt trail wraps around it, making a loop.
Lemax Placer Gulch is a neat place we stumbled upon when walking the town. You can learn a bit about the town’s mining history, and see some of the equipment used, as well as a few historic buildings.
Breckenridge has an abundance of things to do, as this shows just a bit of what the town has to offer. Kitty finds new adventures with us every time we go visit.
